Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education- (PSHE)

Summary of Curriculum Intent

'I can work really well in a team - I always listen to other ideas!'

'Sometimes I get a bit angry or upset but I know that it doesn't last a long time'

PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) is a crucial part of the curriculum at Queensmead Academy. Our school aims to create a happy, safe environment, in which our children are equipped with the essential skills and tools to prepare them well for lifelong learning and their role in society as they grow up.

At Queensmead we intend to develop our children’s understanding of their ever-changing world. We strongly promote positive mental health and wellbeing in a supportive environment, enabling our children to share ideas, develop and grow.

At Queensmead, we follow the National Curriculum guidance for PSHE. This is delivered using our PSHE progression map, covering key concepts and skills that underpin PSHE education. This enables us to fulfil our responsibility to support pupil’s Spiritual, Moral, Cultural, Mental and physical development to prepare our pupils for the wonderful opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life both now and in their future. We aim to help our children to develop and demonstrate the skills and attitudes they will need to allow them to participate and contribute to life as a citizen in the UK today.

Our pupils will be taught through the following core themes:-

  • Health and Wellbeing

  • Relationships

  • Living in the wider world

The RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) aspect of the PSHE curriculum has been developed as part of a local development group with all of the city schools in Leicester. Please see the separate page for more information about this subject.
